Alex Clifton

With just four months in the dental industry when he joined DWB, business manager Alex Clifton came from outside dentistry and was finding the landscape genuinely overwhelming. The personal support, in-practice involvement, and sequential guidance from Rahul and Bhavna gave him the confidence to stop trying to do everything at once — and start building the practice properly.

Finding Confidence as a New Business Manager

Q: What was your background when you joined DWB, and what were you dealing with at the time?

Alex Clifton: I had only been in the dental business for about four months. Before that I was in industry, so as a business manager I was completely new to everything dental. I was slowly figuring things out and, honestly, I felt quite bewildered. There is so much to learn and so many moving parts, and I did not yet have the context to know where to begin.

Q: What stood out most about the way Rahul and Bhavna work with their clients?

Alex Clifton: The personal responsiveness and the personal touch. Rahul and Bhavna have been down to the practice in person, getting involved with the whole team — each individual staff member. And day-to-day, if I have a question that needs answering, I can WhatsApp them and set up a call very quickly. That level of genuine involvement is not something you find everywhere.

Q: How has the programme changed the way you approach running the business?

Alex Clifton: Even in the first month or two, I could already start to see a progression and a clear, sequential route forward. What the programme gave me was the confidence to hold my horses — to stop trying to do everything at once, which only creates confusion — and just follow the guidance one step at a time. That clarity alone has been enormously valuable for someone in my position.

Q: What would you say to another business manager or practice owner considering DWB?

Alex Clifton: I would say the personal support and the structure are what make it different. Having people who are genuinely invested in what you are building — not just delivering content and moving on — that matters. For anyone coming into the dental world from outside, having guidance from people who understand both the clinical and the business side is exactly what you need to hit the ground running.
