Dr Bertrand Napier

After years of running a successful practice, Dr Bertrand Napier reached a plateau and began thinking seriously about his exit strategy. Through Dental Wealth Builder, he made a powerful personal discovery — that the change he needed had to start with himself. His team got on board faster than expected, and the shift toward business-focused thinking is now shaping both his practice and his path to retirement.

From Plateau to a Business-Focused Exit Strategy

Q: What brought you to DWB at this point in your career?

Dr Bertrand Napier: I had reached a point in my practice where I felt we were plateauing. And my concern is that when you plateau, you are effectively going backwards. I also have retirement and an exit strategy on my mind, so I wanted to maximise the time and efficiency in the practice — and honestly, get a bit of my life back. Those were the two things driving me.

Q: What surprised you most about the programme?

Dr Bertrand Napier: How quickly the team got engaged. It usually takes a while for a team to get behind something new — they tend to look at it with a degree of suspicion. The surprise here was how rapidly they became engaged, particularly with Bhavna’s approach. It is very realistic and very relatable for them, and that resonated immediately.

Q: How does DWB compare to other coaching you have experienced?

Dr Bertrand Napier: This is not the first time I have had coaching. But going through this process again has brought a different realisation — that a significant amount of the change that needs to happen actually starts with me. Bhavna and Rahul are both very quickly responsive, very understanding, and very insightful. What makes them particularly credible is that they have done exactly what I am trying to do. They have run and grown a practice successfully, which means they understand not just the theory but exactly what you are going through and what you are thinking.

Q: What has been the most significant personal shift through this process?

Dr Bertrand Napier: The realisation that it is a business. I have thoroughly enjoyed owning and running a practice — implementing ideas, delivering great dentistry. But the shift that is coming now is learning to be more business-focused in my decision-making. Whenever I am making a decision now, I ask myself: is this the right decision for the practice as a business, not just something that appeals to me personally? That reprogramming — moving from practitioner instincts towards business thinking — has been the most important change I have made.

Q: What does the future look like from here?

Dr Bertrand Napier: The goal is to maximise the value and efficiency of the practice, create more time in my life, and build towards a structured exit. The programme is helping me put the systems in place so that all of that becomes achievable. You cannot be dormant — you have to keep learning. And when the time comes, everything needs to be in order. That is what we are working towards.
