Strategic Growth and Exit Planning for Dental Groups

Whether you're expanding, optimising, or preparing for an acquisition—we help you lead with strategy, scale sustainably, and exit with confidence. Backed by 30+ years of real-world experience.

When Consulting Makes Sense

At a certain level, running your practice becomes more about systems, structure, and scalable value than about dentistry itself. Maybe you’re growing across multiple sites, wearing too many hats, or unsure whether to scale, restructure, or exit. You don’t need more complexity. You need a trusted partner to simplify the path forward and guide high-impact business decisions.

Consulting or coaching? They are not the same purchase

These two words get used interchangeably across the dental sector, and the difference decides what you actually get.

What happens

Consulting: We diagnose the problem and build the solution alongside you.

Coaching: We build the capability in you and your team to solve it yourselves.

Best when

Consulting: A defined problem, a deadline, or no internal capacity.

Coaching: The issue is ongoing and the capability needs to stay behind.

Usual trigger

Consulting: An acquisition, a restructure, a sale, a stalled expansion.

Coaching: A practice that works but is quietly running its owner.

Pace

Consulting: Faster, more intensive while it runs.

Coaching: Slower, built to outlast the engagement.

The risk

Consulting: Capability can walk out with us unless handover is deliberate.

Coaching: Needs commitment from more than just the owner.

In any long relationship the two blend. The mistake is buying one while expecting the other, and it is how people end up concluding that consulting did not stick or that coaching was too slow.

What a group engagement involves

Consulting across a group is a different exercise from consulting for one practice, and the differences explain why single site advice so often fails when it is applied across several.

The numbers have to be comparable before they are worth anything

Most groups come together by acquisition. That means several practices each running their own software configuration, their own coding habits and their own quiet definition of what counts as a new patient. Compare site against site before reconciling any of that and you get confident conclusions drawn from unreliable data, which is worse than having no data at all. This part is unglamorous and it comes first.

Clinical governance stops being informal

In a single practice the principal sees everything, usually without thinking of it as oversight. Across four sites nobody sees everything. Treatment planning standards drift. Case acceptance approaches drift. Clinical quality drifts, slowly, and typically nobody notices until a complaint or an audit brings it into the room.

Deciding what the centre actually does

Every group reaches this question and most reach it late. Centralise too much and you smother the practices that were working perfectly well on their own. Centralise too little and what you have is a holding company with a shared logo, carrying the costs of a group without the advantages of one.

Exit readiness gets built, not arranged

Buyers examine several years of trading. Changes made in the six months before a sale simply do not reach the accounts in time to count for anything. Preparing a group for sale is a project that starts two to three years out, and the bulk of it is making the business work without the people who built it.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a consultant or a coach?

If you have a defined problem with a deadline, or no capacity to do the work yourself, consulting fits. If the issue is ongoing and you want the capability to remain in the practice afterwards, coaching fits. If you genuinely cannot tell, that is a reasonable thing to work out on a first call rather than before it.

Do you work with single practices or only groups?

The consulting work is built around groups, multi site owners and practices heading into a transaction. Single site owners are usually better served by coaching, and we will say so rather than sell you the bigger engagement.

When should I start planning an exit?

Two to three years before you want to leave. Buyers look at trading history, so the work has to happen early enough to show up in the accounts they will examine.

What makes dental consulting different from general business consulting?

Clinical governance, regulatory obligation, the associate model, and the fact that in most practices the principal is also the biggest producer. A general consultant can read the accounts. Knowing what those accounts mean inside a dental business is a different skill.

Who would I actually be working with?

Dr Rahul Doshi and Dr Bhavna Doshi lead this work directly. Between them they have built, scaled and sold award winning practices, and Rahul served as Clinical Director through the growth of a large dental group, which means the buyer's side of these conversations is familiar territory rather than theory.
