Giving back to the profession
Rahul Doshi reflects on his passion for cosmetic dentistry and acting as a coach to other dentists
What were you doing 25 years ago?
Rahul Doshi: I had just purchased my first practice, a mixed practice with 3500 NHS and 1500 private patients. At that time, I was performing general dentistry.
My focus was always to carry out comprehensive treatment planning and provide a high standard of care for my patients. I also met my life partner, Dr Bhavna Doshi.
What are you doing now?
Rahul Doshi: I am now the clinical strategy development director of Dentex Healthcare Group. My main remit is to create strategic growth for each of the practices within the group.
My experiences as a multiple practice owner, clinical director at the Perfect Smile Advanced Training Institute, regional partner for Dentex, Private Dentistry Awards judge and strategic development consultant for Dental Wealth Builder Coaching, has equipped me to fit easily into this new role.
How do you see dentistry changing in the next 25 years?
Rahul Doshi: I feel that the changes that are arising in dentistry include:
- A larger landscape of practices owned under a corporate structure
- Digital dentistry integrated and used in all areas of dentistry, with robotic dentistry being either on the horizon or in its infant stage
- An increase in quality and sophistication of dentistry because of the above.
What have been your biggest accomplishments over the last 25 years?
Rahul Doshi: President of British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, award for Outstanding Contribution to Cosmetic Dentistry, clinical strategy development director of Dentex Healthcare Group and a father of two amazing boys that I am extremely proud of.
What excites you?
Rahul Doshi: I get excited and passionate when I see the appreciation in the eyes of dentists I have helped through either business coaching with my wife or as part of the clinical training I provided on comprehensive treatment planning and smile designs; or with any of my other roles.
I love creating and achieving significant strategic growth for all the practices I work with.
Bhavna always tells me that, in addition to my passion for cosmetic dentistry, I have a natural business talent. I have also loved my work as a dentist.
I really enjoy the feeling I get when I review my patients who are extremely happy from the cosmetic dentistry I provided them more than 15 years ago, and they have had no problems.
One of the reasons I created the tag line for my practice of ‘Changing Lives and Exceeding Expectations’ was because that is exactly what motivated me to be my best every day.
How do you unwind?
Rahul Doshi: I enjoy working out and running, long walks with my wife, and supporting my football team, Everton.
Anything more to add?
Rahul Doshi: I have been very fortunate to have a wonderful family and some amazing friends and colleagues.
I feel very grateful to have had so many opportunities in life, that I always want to give back wherever I can and provide the support, mentorship and friendship to all those that need it.
I also love supporting various charities, including Smile Star.
